Hubb Plumbing of Snellville would like to offer you a few to tips to help you avoid frozen pipes this
winter season. Have you ever experienced frozen pipes that have exploded? It sounds like a mix
between dub step, the zombie apocalypse, and a New York City subway! Not something any home
owner ever wants to experience. We would like to offer a few tips to help you avoid that awful
catastrophe!
Tip # 1. Before the onset of cold weather make sure that your pipes are properly insulated. Pipes that
are exposed are the most vulnerable to freezing. We suggest that you leave your cabinets open under
sinks and appliance areas so that the warmer air can aid in preventing the non-insulated pipes from
freezing. This is important especially for pipes that are close to outside walls.
Tip # 2. During extreme weather conditions it is best to keep the thermostat set at the same
temperature during the day and at night. If you are traveling and will be away it is best to leave the
thermostat set at no lower than 55° F.
Tip # 3. Keep your water running. It’s best to keep a steady drip going so that the pressure doesn’t build
up. We suggest that you let the water trickle from a faucet of an outside wall. By allowing the water to
drip this will prevent water from being stagnant inside the pipes and freezing.
We hope these tips will help ensure a warm and safe winter season. If you believe that you have frozen
pipes, shut off the main water supply and give us a call! As always we at Hubb Plumbing are here for you
and are happy to help with all of your plumbing needs!
